ENGR. PROF. J. O. OHU

 

Born on the 18th September, 1947 at Fiditi, Oyo State. Prof. John O. Ohu obtained his B.Sc. Hons degree in Agricultural Engineering from Obafemi Awowolo University, Ile-Ife in 1975, M.Sc in Agricultural Engineering (Soil and Water) from Cranfield Institute of Technology, Silsoe College, Bedfordshire, England in 1978 and Ph. D Agricultural Engineering from McGill University (McGill) in 1985.

 
Professor Ohu lectured at the Federal Soil Conservation School, Jos from 1975-1977, where he taught courses in Soil and Water Engineering. He joined the University of Maiduguri in 1980 as a lecturer. He rose through the ranks and was ultimately promoted Professor of Agricultural Engineering in 1993. He occupied several positions in the University including Head of Department and University SIWES Coordinator (1990-1995); Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Maiduguri (1995-2000); External Examiner to Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Soil Management Division Uppsala Sweden (1995). Professor Ohu served as a Consultant in the planning, design and formulation of Sindiri Damaturu, Yobe State Agricultural Project (1991); National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) Abuja. Professor Ohu was a Common-Wealth Scholar of Academic Exchange Programme to ICRISAT, India and the University of Agriculture, Malaysia (1989); and German Academic Programme (DAAD) Award to Technical University, Berlin, Republic of Germany (1992).
 
A participant in several national and international committees, he has also organized and participated in several other specialized workshops / conferences and published widely. He is a COREN registered Engineer, Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Agricultural Engineers, Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Member American Society of Engineers and Member International Soil Tillage Research Organization.
