ENGR. PROF. G. A. MAKANJUOLA, NNOM

 

Prof. Gabriel Ayodele Makanjuola was born on 22nd April, 1938, at Ilesha, Osun State. He attended University College, Ibadan, between 1958 and 1959. From there he proceeded to Nigerian College of Arts, Science & Technology, Zaria, and graduated with B.Sc. (London) Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1962. Prof. Makanjuola later studied at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, and obtained a Ph. D. in Agricultural Engineering in 196
 
Prof. Makanjuola started his career in 1963 as an Agricultural Engineer with the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ibadan, where he rose to become Senior Agricultural Engineer. He left the Ministry in 1968 to join the services of University of Ife (Now Obafemi Awolowo University) as a Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Engineering where he was appointed a Professor in 1975. He was Dean of the Faculty of Technology between 1977 and 1979 and also served as Head of Department of Agricultural Engineering between 1979 and 1980. In 1986, he moved to Federal Ministry of Industry as a Special Adviser to the Minister, a position he held till 1987 when he crossed to the presidency as Consulting Director in the Directorate of Food, Roads and Rural Infrastructure. He served in this capacity till 1993 when he left to establish his own company, Makstech Industries and Engineering Services Limited where he currently serves as Chairman.
 
A distinguished Engineer, Prof. Makanjuola has over 10 significant inventions and innovations with 3 British Patens. He also has more than 20 academic papers and over 30 technical papers in learned journals and conference proceedings. He was elected into the prestigious International Technology Institute Hall of Fame for Engineering, Science and Technology (HOFEST), Pittsbugh, U.S.A.., in 1988. He also received a Gold Medal Award for Excellent Contribution in Food Science and Technology in 1989, jointly given by African Regional Union for Technology, Dakar, Senegal and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). As recognition of his contributions to engineering by the Federal Government of Nigeria, he was honoured with the Nigerian National Merit Award for Academic Excellence in Engineering in 1992.
 
A serving Professor of Agricultural Engineering in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Makanjuola is a fellow of Nigerian Society of Agricultural Engineers, Nigerian Society of Engineers and Nigerian Academy of Science. He is also a foundation Fellow of Nigerian Academy of Engineering.
