PROF. O. J. EZE-UZOMAKA
Born on the 29th December, 1940,
Professor Osondu John Eze-Uzomaka attended Prescilla Memorial Grammar School,
Oguta, Imo State and Technical Institute, Yaba before proceeding to the
University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne where he graduated B. Sc. and Ph. D. in Civil
Engineering in 1966 and 1969 respectively. Prof. Eze-Uzomaka worked as Graduate
Engineer with Mason pittendrigh and Partners, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne between June
and October 1966 and was assistant engineer with Ward Ashcroft and Parkman,
Liverpool from 1969-1970. He also worked as a Geotechnical Research Assistant
and Development Engineer with Cementation Research Ltd. Richmansworth England
between October 1970 and December 1972. He later joined the University of
Nigeria, Nsukka in 1973 and was appointed Professor in 1986.
Professor Uzomaka is a former Dean of both
the Faculty of Engineering and the Postgraduate School of the University of
Nigeria. Between 1977 and 1979, he served as external assessor to the Cement
and Concrete Association in England for Advanced Concrete Technology Course. At
the national level, he has served on various Specialist Boards and Technical
Fact Finding Committees among which are the Standard Organization of Nigeria,
Drafting Committee on Specifications for Building Materials, Chairman of Specialist
Technical Panel on the Erosion Control Scheme for Anambra and Imo States;
member of Nigerian Engineering delegation to India for accreditation of Indian
Engineering Institutions in 1977, etc.
Professor Uzomaka is a member of the Nigerian
Society of Engineers, the British Institution of Civil Engineers, the American
Society of Engineers and a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences. He is a
foundation Fellow of the Academy.
