Prof.
Pius J Egbelu obtained B.S.I.E Magna Cum Laude in Industrial Engineering from Louisiana
Technology University, Ruston, Louisiana in 1978. He proceeded to Virginia
Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia, USA where he
bagged M.S.I.E and PhD in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, 1979
and 1982 respectively.
Prof.
Egbelu started his career with Alabama A&M University and Louisiana
Technology University in 1975 to 1977 as Student Tutor. Between 1978 - 1981, he
joined the academic teaching staff of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University as Graduate Teaching Assistant and was promoted Graduate Instructor
in 1982. In 1982 to 1984, Assistant Professor, Department of Industrial and
Management Systems Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University, University
Park, and became Associate Professor in 1990 to 1995 at the same University. He
served as external Ph.D Thesis Examiner in various Universities including
University of Roorkee, India; India Institute of Technology, Madras, India;
University of Windsor, Windsor, Canada and Asian Institute of Technology,
Bangkok, Thailand respectively.
From
1994 to 1996, Prof. Egbelu was a Program Director, Operations Research and
Production Systems Programs, Division of Design and Manufacturing, Engineering
Directorate. The National Science Foundation, Arlington, Virginia; Professor
& Chair , Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Iowa State University, Ames,
Iowa. He served as Dean of Engineering and Bert Turner Distinguished Professor,
Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 2000 to 2004; Dean,
National Science Foundation Academy(a US research agency), Arlington, Virginia,
2005 to 2007; Professor of Industrial Engineering, Louisiana State University,
Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 2007 to 2011. He is presently a Distinguished Professor
and Dean and Holder of Then & Clarke Chair, School of Management, New Jersey
Institute of Technology, University Heights, Newark, New Jersey.
Prof.
Egbelu has made extensive contribution to both the service and manufacturing
sectors and he has made several presentations, professional meetings and
conferences which he chaired for many years. He has carried out Manufacturing Systems
Analysis, Automated Material Handling, Supply Chain Management, Applied
Optimization, Shop Floor Planning Control, Scheduling, Computer Simulation and
Enterprise Systems Modeling. He has led delegation of 11 USA Academic
Researchers, Educator and Industrial Representatives to South Africa to explore
collaboration in manufacturing education and research and also served as a Director,
Committee on the Development of a Blueprint for an Academic Research Funding
Agency in Nigeria sponsored by Nigerian Ministry of Science and Technology in 2006
to 2007 and he has written many books and has been published in several scholarly
journals.
He
received the Outstanding Foreign Student Academic Award of Alabama A&M
University, Normal Alabama in 1975/76, the NORWELA Chapter of American
Institute of Industrial Engineers, Shreveport , Louisiana Scholarship Recipient
between 1977 and 1988, Outstanding Young Men of America Recipient Award, SME
Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Recipient Award, Who’s is Who in Science and Engineering Listed in
Marquis 1996 Edition, National Science Foundation Director’s Management Excellence Award and College of
Engineering and Science Distinguished alumni, 2010, Louisiana Technology
University, Ruston Louisiana.
He is a Registered Engineer in the State of Louisiana, Member, Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) and Nigerian Academy of Science.
