Born on 17th May, 1947 from Uromi, Esan North East, Edo State, ENGR. DR. KISITO OSEIRHUDUTE OKPERE had a Shell Scholarship in 1966 to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, UK .
He emerged thereafter with a First Class Hons degree mid 1969 and a Ph.D degree mid 1973.
Engr. Dr. Okpere has since had a distinguished career in the Oil and Gas industry spanning over 45 years in engineering and management in Nigeria and overseas.
He started his career in Dec 1972 with Shell Pet. Dev. Company (SPDC) as Gas Engineer; with subsequent assignments as Field Engineer, Project Construction Engineer and Project Manager between 1972-1978. In 1978-1980, he served as Project Engineer overseas to Brunei Shell Petroleum, Off-Shore construction engineering in yard -fabrication, load-out and installation. On his return he was promoted Senior Gas Engineer Lagos. Subsequent assignments followed as Chief Engineer Western Division and Deputy Engineering Manager, Lagos; prior to another cross-posting assignment 1987-1989, this time to the Hague, Netherlands.
On his return, he was promoted Engineering Manager for Shell Nigeria with single-point functional accountability for Engineering and Maintenance across the entire company. He was the second indigenous engineer with such distinction.
Between 1992-1996, he served as Technical Manager Eastern Division followed by transfer to Lagos Dec 1996 as in-country CEO for Shell Nigeria‚Äôs Deepwater Company (SNEPCO). He was subsequently promoted early 2004, to the Senior Executive Grade of Shell world-wide.
Late 2004, he returned to Shell Pet. Dev. Company (SPDC), as Technical Director with responsibility for technical work and business planning required to meet corporate targets for oil and gas reserves, and for major projects (a portfolio of $2bln per year) including gas maturation and development for the Nigerian LNG and domestic markets.
He retired as regional Vice President, Engineering Business Development based in Lagos in June 2007.
Engr. Dr. Okpere has remained active in the Oil and Gas industry. He is a founder and the pioneer Chairman of Vertex Energy Nig Ltd, an emerging independent, and indigenous Oil & Gas Company.
He is COREN Registered and a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineers.
