Academy plague been presented to Mr. Okoigun by The President of NAEng

Mr Okoigun said in his appreciation address to the Academy after he was decorated as honorary fellow.

He said traced his interest in Science, Engineering Technology from his tender age as a secondary school student in his 70s. He said that having realized that no nation could develop without paying serious attention to the catalysts of growth and Development. So he decided to study engineering and setup an engineering based business.

He also use parts of his company resources to promote education in those fields as well as the profession attached to them.

He also describe the honor as a challenge for him to intensify efforts of raising awareness on the imperative  of according Science Engineering and Technology as their pride of place as desirable fields of the country development.

Engr J. O. Maduka, The President of NAEng said in her welcome address that the lecture is yet another opportunity for the Academy to address a topical technological issue of significant impact to our country’s socio-economic development. Specifically, the issue in focus is: “Engineering Innovations and Last-Mile Development: Towards a Synergy between Investors and Research�. Our choice of this topic is in furtherance of our avowed commitment to positively impact our economy and the social life of Nigerians. The issue of Engineering Innovations has attracted debates with a lot of passion.

Engr. Prof. O. Ibidapo-Obe, former vice � chancellor of University of Lagos who was the speaker of the day said he wants the academy to lead as the intervention agency in achieving the vision that would place the country among the community of nations in terms of innovation and skills capacities.

 

He also said NAEng should be the intervention group between the inventors, reseachers and investors, which are the people who have the funds to ensure that inventions get to the market place.

Dr. Maikanti Baru, Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), who also spoke at the event, commended the Academy for its leadership and promotion of policies and also promotion of Science, Engineering and Technology and innovation for a better economy and society.
